ASSASSINATION ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION OF GIORGIO Ambrosoli July 12 was commemorated in several places in our country the 31st anniversary of the assassination of George Ambrosoli. Ed i fatti restano quelli che ogni anno sento il dovere di ricordare per chi non li conoscesse e soprattutto per i giovani. Si svolsero fra il 1974 ed il 1979. Il resoconto più completo sta nel famoso libro di Corrado Stajano dal titolo “Un eroe borghese” (ed Einaudi). Il 12 luglio 1979 Giorgio Ambrosoli venne assassinato a Milano, sotto casa, da William Aricò, un killer di Cosa Nostra ingaggiato negli USA per conto di Michele Sindona. Aveva moglie e tre figli piccoli. Nel 1974 Ambrosoli, moderato, cattolico fervente, di professione avvocato civilista, con spirito da civil servant aveva accettato l’incarico di commissario liquidatore e, con ciò, il difficile compito di fare chiarezza nella colossale bancarotta di Michele Sindona, il banchiere di origini siciliane al centro di uno scandalo e di un crac finanziario di enorme portata della Banca Privata Italiana. All’incarico Ambrosoli era stato chiamato dal ministero del tesoro su indicazione di Guido Carli, allora governatore della Banca d’Italia. Vi si applicò con competenza e tenacia, affrontando crescenti intimidation and then increasingly explicit threats. " Whatever happens. The Story of a free man "(and Sironi) is the title of a beautiful essay published in 2009 and I remember with a preface by Carlo Azeglio Ciampi and written by his son Giorgio, Umberto Ambrosoli, which in 1979 was 6 years old.

NDR: Michele Sindona, extradited from the U.S. and sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in 1996 died in prison of Voghera poisoned after drinking a cup of coffee. William Aricò, convicted and jailed in the U.S. in 1984 died during an escape attempt.
